Challenge
When our Client approached Four Ages, the main request was to create an IoT application for smart device monitoring and control. Another important requirement concerned energy efficiency, which supports the concept of environmental sustainability promoted by the hotel chain.
The central vision of the project entailed the creation of an innovative system of interconnected devices that could also foster an intelligent environment. This means avoiding excessive energy consumption and minimizing waste.
Solution
We have started the project by identifying the devices to be connected to the IoT application. Those were air conditioning, heating, lights, and a stereo system. All hotel suites were equipped with the same variety of devices due to the concept of equity they strongly promote.
Four Ages engineers designed and built the hardware with sensors for real-time data collection from devices and created firmware in C++. Then, they built a centralized system as the backend for processing data from connected devices.
To understand the suite occupancy, we have implemented an action-triggered mechanism that enables smart devices to respond instantly to environmental changes. That way, the system was able to turn off heating or switch off lights when there was nobody there. It could also automatically adjust the air conditioning to respond to changes in outside temperature.
Four Ages also created mobile apps for iOS and Android with Flutter for efficient cross-platform development. Each app features a UX-oriented system control, allowing users to configure automation and monitoring settings with ease.
Impact
The newly developed IoT and energy management system strongly supports innovation, sustainability, and efficiency concepts worshiped by our Client. By seamlessly integrating with various smart home devices, the system identifies and manages wasted energy, significantly reducing overall energy demand. During the previous year, the hotel chain achieved a 30% reduction in energy consumption at facilities where our solution was deployed, thanks to intelligent scheduling and real-time sensor data.
